Unwanted by anyone and hunted by allies, Himmler had attempted to disappear and go into hiding. He had hid under the name of Sergeant Heinrich Hitzinger. Himmler along with two companions had been caught, for the next two days he was moved around several camps. A duty officer, Captain Selvester, began a interrogation. Himmler had then admitted to his true identity, the Captain then had the prisoner searched. He was then moved to another British army, where a Doctor Wells conducted a medical examination. The doctor had tried to examin Himmler's mouth, but the prisoner had been reluctant to open and had jerked his head away. Himmler had then bit into a cyanide pill and collapsed onto the floor. He was dead within the next 15 minutes. Shortly after he was buried in a unmarked grave.
